Handcrafted metal yard art & garden stakes, made with 100% American steel by Rick & Amy Wetmore. Each piece is unique.
Every piece of metal yard art we sell comes straight out of Rick and Amy Wetmore's workshop - cut by hand from 100% US Steel and finished with care. If you've spent any time searching for outdoor decor that actually has personality, you know how hard it is to find. Most garden decor you see at big box stores is the same thin resin stuff everyone else has on their block. Our garden art is handmade - each piece cut from heavy-gauge American steel by skilled artisans who take pride in what they build. That's why we've earned 590+ five-star reviews on Etsy and counting.
One of our customers, a verified Etsy buyer, put it perfectly: "I ordered the Alice set and it's absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship is evident the moment you pull it out of the box - heavy, sturdy US steel, not that flimsy stuff from big box stores. Rick and Amy shipped fast and communication was wonderful." That's the Funky Flamingo difference.
Our steel art sculptures range from $34 for single garden stakes to $165 for large multi-piece sets. Whether you're looking for whimsical statement pieces among your flowers and flower beds or large outdoor sculptures of animals, dinosaurs, or dragons that stop traffic on the street - we've got something for your home. We even do custom designs, including dog breeds, cat breeds, and any animal you love.
We hear it all the time - someone bought cheap metal decor online and it was warped, rusted through, or faded to nothing within a season. Here's why that doesn't happen with Funky Flamingo:

Find Your Piece TodayFor raw steel pieces, you can apply a clear outdoor sealant like Rustoleum once or twice a year to slow the patina process - or just let it be. That natural rust patina is part of the appeal of rustic outdoor metal pieces, and our steel is thick enough that surface rust is purely cosmetic. For powder-coated garden art, rinse with water occasionally to clear debris. That's really it - zero maintenance in the traditional sense.
Start with a wire brush or light sandpaper to remove any loose rust or debris. Wipe clean and dry completely. Apply a rust-inhibiting metal primer first - this is the step most people skip and regret. Then use spray paint rated for outdoor metal use. Rustoleum's line works well on garden art and garden decor. Apply 2-3 thin coats instead of one thick coat for the best finish. For intricate metal sculptures, a spray can gives better coverage than a brush.
Steel is the most common and most durable option for outdoor art sculptures and yard art. Specifically, hot-rolled or cold-rolled carbon steel is popular for its strength and workability. Corten steel (also called weathering steel) is prized for its self-protecting rust layer. All of our metal garden art is made from US Steel - strong, heavy-gauge, and designed to hold up outdoors year-round. Some artists use aluminum for large yard art (lighter weight) or cast iron for heavy ornamental pieces, but steel offers the best combination of strength, detail, and value.
Powder coating is the gold standard for protecting outdoor metal art and metal decor. It bonds directly to the steel at high temperature and creates a durable, even finish that resists chipping, fading, and rust far better than standard spray paint. We offer powder-coated versions of many of our garden sculptures for exactly this reason. For raw steel pieces, a penetrating oil-based sealant or automotive-grade clear coat applied annually gives great protection. Either way, outdoor metal art from good-quality steel will outlast most synthetic decor by years.
Curb appeal directly impacts how buyers perceive your home - and well-chosen garden art and outdoor decor contribute to that first impression. While metal sculptures and garden stakes won't show up on an appraisal like a new roof, real estate professionals consistently note that attractive landscaping and outdoor styling can add 5-15% to perceived home value. The key is tasteful placement - a few statement pieces like large yard art or whimsical garden stakes that complement your space will elevate your yard. An overcrowded yard with mismatched decor has the opposite effect.
The best protection starts with the metal itself - heavy-gauge steel rusts more slowly and evenly than thin sheet metal. To actively protect your yard art from rust, keep it off wet ground when possible (stake placement matters), apply a clear exterior sealant or rust-inhibiting spray once a year, and touch up any chipped paint or powder coat quickly before the underlying steel is exposed. Our raw steel garden art develops a natural rust patina that actually seals the surface over time - that rich brown color is both attractive and protective. Many customers choose it specifically for the low-maintenance rustic look it develops.
Tacky yard art usually comes down to clutter and poor quality - think plastic lawn ornaments crammed together with no breathing room, faded resin figures that have seen better decades, or a set of matching mass-produced garden sculptures that clearly cost $12 each. The fix is simple: fewer, better pieces. One large, handcrafted metal garden sculpture makes a bigger impression than a dozen cheap plastic stakes. Choose yard art that reflects your personality - whether that's whimsical statement pieces, rustic metal garden decor, or bold outdoor art sculptures - and give each piece space to be seen. Quality beats quantity every time.
For outdoor metal sculptures, steel is the top choice for most applications - it's strong, detailed, and affordable. Corten or weathering steel is excellent for garden art that develops a beautiful, self-protecting rust patina over time. Stainless steel is highly rust-resistant but more expensive and harder to work with for intricate designs. Aluminum is lightweight and rust-free, great for large yard art that needs to be moved. Bronze and cast iron are classic options for permanent ornamental garden sculptures. For handcrafted yard art and garden stakes at real-world prices, domestic steel is the winner - which is exactly why we use 100% US Steel for every piece we make.
